App Review: Popshop Live

Popshop Live is a live-shopping platform where sellers engage in a live stream to promote their items and encourage viewers to purchase the same product in real-time. It’s a Los Angeles-based startup that is trying to bring social commerce to our phones. Think QVC or Home Shopping Network (HSN) but mashed with Snapchat-like UX/UI to make the experience more similar to our social browsing habits.

Live stream shopping is not a new phenomenon in the market. QVC and HSN (now owned by QVC Inc.) are already giants in this arena. They have mastered the model of selling products live on the air with millions of viewers under their belt. However, not every entrepreneur is lucky enough to have their merchandise featured on these channels. That’s where a new breed of players like Popshop Live is entering the category to enable small retailers, including at-home entrepreneurs, to bring their products to the market via live stream shopping. People are used to seeing their social feeds flooded with influencers promoting products. The idea of selling products live on these platforms will take the experience to another level. Instagram gave rise to many brands and personalities who successfully leveraged the platform to build their audience. These brands and influencers understood the platform better than others.
